Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 3:03:53 PM)
Raina wasn't exactly fond of being left in the dark. She'd met a few Tarot outside of the camp, and they'd all been pleasant enough, but the one she really wanted to see hadn't been there. Then when they'd heard about what the Inquisition had done, they'd all more or less avoided going into town. Raina was starting to realize exactly what Issac had meant about danger. She was more worried about those inside the city, and it wasn't exactly easy to get information that wasn't coded out of Harper, when she could find him.
..Which she's trying to do right now, walking around the wagons. She figures she'll tell him she's going into the city to find a pair of stockings. She'd ripped a hole in the knee of her other pair a week before, and although she could mend them, going into town to find a new pair would be an excuse to go into town and try to find Issac. Easier said than done, however, as she had no idea where he lived.

...That was, under the circumstance she could find Harper. He was never findable when you needed him, and always there when you'd rather he wasn't.

Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 3:14:11 PM)
Issac wandered back from Lyuba's wagons, humming to himself. Things were balancing nicely -- if everything went according to plan they would have the Marquis out, all of their people out, and a measure of Justice over all. He glanced longingly at the Circus tents, and sighed a little to himself. No. He didn't have time for personal details .... after all, he was Major Arcana and he had a duty to his people to stay on track.
However, Raina was one of his people now, and it suddenly occured to him that he hadn't spoken to her for days. After everything that happened -- well. He should check up on her. At least for a few minutes. He angled himself down towards the circus tents, looking for that distinctive graceful figure.

Distinctive for him, at any rate.

Raina sighed as she turned away from one of her fellow performers, a frown across her face. He'd informed her he hadn't seen Harper all day, so she was about to admit defeat and return to her wagon, when she looked up from the ground which she was currently frowning at and saw a person making his way towards the circus, whom she had no trouble distinguishing. A smile came to her face and she walked to the edge of the wagon circle, stopping to wait for him to approach. Her desire was to run towards him, because she was inexplicably glad to see him. However, there were probably other people watching around, and that if nothing else held her back.

Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 3:39:03 PM)
"Met a lass from Domino, tralala tralalo, she asked to set a spell-o, trlalalala tralalao..." Issac sang softly, a rich sort of tenor. His eyes caught on the glint of sunshine, that caught golden hair, that caught Raina just perfectly as she waited at the edge of the wagon circle. Issac slowed, his eyes alighting from within, warm green jade. Lips curving up, he moved towards her with a more quickened pace, trying to contain his excitement. After all, he wasn't a schoolboy anymore.
"Just the Firelady I was looking for..." He said, by way of greeting, slowing again when he was a few feet away from her.

Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 3:47:22 PM)
Raina's smile widened. It had crossed her mind that he may have been looking for Harper, or the Twins again, but it made her feel rather pleased that he'd been looking for her
"..Really? Well, here I am then."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 3:51:01 PM)
"Just like magic..."
Issac murmured, and he looked along the path leading around the city, but away from the circus tents. "Do you have a few moments to take a walk? I'd like to, ah, well. Catch up with you. See how your week has been, that sort of thing."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 3:59:02 PM)
Raina nodded, brushing a curl of hair away from her face. She was wishing she had her clip with her. She didn't like wearing her hair down, it got in her eyes, but she couldn't have endured cutting it to make things easier, so she dealt with the clips and ties to keep it at bay when she was performing or otherwise. She wasn't really sure what had possessed her to leave it down this morning.
"Sure. I've got time." Relentless and constant practice? What's that?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 4:10:11 PM)
One curl drifted about her cheek, and he resisted the urge to tuck it behind her ear, or play with it against his own fingers. Instead, he dropped his hands to his sides, raised his eyebrows in invitation and smiled, as he led the way down the path.
"Have you heard the news ... about the fountain?" Perhaps not the best subject to begin with, but with Davin home it had ended for the best. For the most part. These things balanced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 4:24:43 PM)
Raina nodded, her own hands ending up clasped loosely behind her back as they walked. She kept her eyes ahead.
"Yes.. we were all told about it." In base at least. She hadn't heard of the outcome of that situation, or what had happened to the man who'd been forced to sit upon the fountain. Can't expect her to have heard about something that just happened though, not when she was being concerned about other things.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 4:29:15 PM)
"Luckily, the man ... his name is Davin.... he was rescued by some well meaning Outsiders. They took care of all the guards, and the Inquistioners as well." Most of them, anyways. That last part ...he had been tempted to tilt things one way or another. However, the odds had been fair. No need for his interference.
He shot her a concerned look. "You've been safe?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 4:34:42 PM)
Raina moved her eyes from the path over to him, and seeing the concern in his face she quickly offered him a reassuring smile and a slight lift of her eyebrows.
"Safe as ever, I think." Other than now knowing a very little bit about her past, not much seemed to have changed. Other than she was feeling worried about more than just the circus folk. "..How about you?" Which had been one of her main worries. If he was safe in the city.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 4:43:10 PM)
"Safe as a man as I can be." Issac answered carefully. He didn't want to lie to her, after all. Say that he was just fine and dandy when he was out, ...well, risking his life for his people. He moved unto to reassure her with complete honesty. "I'm being very careful, considering all the violence about."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 4:49:59 PM)
Raina drew a slow breath, and nodded, her eyes returning to the path ahead of them. She supposed that was all she could ask for, but it was an odd feeling. She wanted him to be safer than that, but knew perfectly well that under circumstances, that was unlikely.
"...Thats good to know." She spoke softly "..I've been worried since we heard about what happened to that woman and her baby.. How... how can they know Tarot from otherwise?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 4:53:06 PM)
"They don't. That is the irony of their Great Plan." Issac said with a little snort. "They make guesses, and from those they take who is Tarot and who is not. Some of those people were just ordinary people who did a little street performing. Some of them were friends of the Tarot. It is a witchhunt, but they do not care what witch they find."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 5:00:58 PM)
Raina's face darkened slightly, and she frowned. "That's horrible." And disgusting. It was worse than the opression the Greens were under back in Sorry. There at least they knew who was what. Not that she'd ever seen the point of that either. Her adoptive family had been nearly as low on the social scale as Greens were placed. They'd had no reason to hate anyone with green eyes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/22/2004 5:03:41 PM)
"It's a crime, but who will punish them? Who will merit out Justice?" Issac thought to himself silently, I will. It was, after all, his Card. His calling in life. Whatever else occured, he would be the force that balanced the cost of all those lives. He shook his head a little. "I am not overly optimstic, I never have been ...but things will work out justly. That much, I know."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/22/2004 5:12:22 PM)
Raina looked over at him again, and unclasped her hands from behind her back. She reached out for his slowly.
"..I believe you. My...mother used to always say people got exactly what they deserved." Raina was unhesitant to believe in a situation like this, someone who would kill a child, Tarot or not, before they'd had a chance to live and make their own decisions as to how their life would be, deserved the same courtesy they'd delivered.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/23/2004 10:32:12 PM)
I look over at her, almost telling her. What I am, who I am. But now is not the time, nor the place. I smile a little, and slip my fingers between hers in answer instead.
Such slender fingers, with so many hard callouses. I rub my thumb against the palm of her hand, and smile a little more. "I hope that's true, in all ways."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/23/2004 10:42:09 PM)
Raina smiled a little at him, taking a large comfort in her hand in his. Everything was starting to feel different, or at least when he was around it did. But, in a good way. Despite the dangers arising.
"..So.. is.. that all you wanted to talk to me about?" Covered the doom and danger, and it seemed like a checking up thing, but she was hoping there was more than just that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/23/2004 10:47:45 PM)
"...Well, no. I wanted to know how you were doing with your brethren. I'm sure you have questions and I feel I've sort of abandoned you to the wolves, so to speak." Issac said wryly, looking down at her with a sheepish expression on his face.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/23/2004 10:54:36 PM)
Raina laughed slightly, looking down at the path again, and brushing with her free hand several curls behind her ear that had once again fallen into her face.
"..A little. Everyone has been very friendly. One of them said you told them not to scare me?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/23/2004 11:24:32 PM)
"...Ah ...wait, what was I saying?" Issac stuttered, his mind travelling along the curve of her throat and the gleam of her hair. How could he have lost his train of thought so very completely? Hm. Perhaps the fact that his mind wasn't exactly connected with serious, mindful balancing things anymore.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/23/2004 11:30:09 PM)
Raina looked over at him again, and tilted her head slightly, confusion flashing for a moment over her features before she smiled slightly. "...Questions. About me being all Tarot-like." She summerized. "..Are you alright?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/23/2004 11:38:12 PM)
"No. And yes." Issac answered honestly, and turned a slight shade of pink as he looked forward. "You tend to distract me ... pleasantly! But still."
He took a deep breath, drawing himself back into the conversation, "Ah ... er ... that must have been Willow. She tends to ... unnerve people."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/23/2004 11:43:30 PM)
"..Oh." Her own cheeks burned faintly and she too looked ahead, hair once again finding its way into her face, although she didn't brush it away. Easier to mask the flushing in her cheeks. She cleared her throat slightly, feeling she might've squeaked out her reply if she didn't.
"..Yes. It was Willow. I liked her. She was rather pleasant."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/23/2004 11:58:09 PM)
"Her gifts tend to unnerve a lot of people ... but she's a sweet young woman. You'll find Tarot ... well, just like everyone else. You like some, you hate some, but in this we are different. We're all Blood to one another, and a true Tarot in heart and mind will never abandon a sister or a brother in need." Issac seriously, looking over at her. "I, for instance, would do anything to help you if you found yourself in danger."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/24/2004 12:07:03 AM)
"...Like.. a sister." Raina's face fell slightly, although since her hair was still floating over her cheek and in front of her eyes, it wasn't exactly easy to see. However, her hand in his loosed slightly. Perhaps she was being foolish, but that had been the way it almost sounded to her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/24/2004 12:12:17 AM)
...Oh damn. Issac squeezed her hand more firmly in return. "But it's not like I think of you as a sister! I don't entertain sisterly thoughts about you ... ah, not that I have bad ones, either. Rather good ones, actually."
He resisted the urge to stammer, before clearing his throat. "Ah, yes. What ...yes. Not sister, however."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/24/2004 12:21:06 AM)
Raina's eyes went slightly wide, followed by a reddening of her cheeks at realization of her mistake, and then she smiled a little. She returned his squeeze, and eventually managed to look up at him, dark eyes shining in-between gold strands.
"..My mistake.."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/24/2004 12:28:20 AM)
...All right, Issac only has so much willpower. He leans forward a little, pauses, then leans in the rest of the way to brush his lips against her cheek gently, whispering quietly. "I couldn't possibly think of you as a sister, Raina. Ever."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/24/2004 12:41:24 AM)
Raina's stomach flutters in an odd but not entirely unpleasant way, and she looks up at Issac, smiling.
"..I suppose.. thats all well and good.... because I don't think I could ever think of you as a brother.." She's finding it a little different. The feelings. She reaches up and touches his cheek lightly with the back of her hand, the only part of her peasant-grown hands she'd decided even remotely close to being soft and pleasant to the touch.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/24/2004 12:42:50 AM)
She ... touched him. It was a little thing, to be sure, but it balanced his head and heart in odd ways. He squeezed her hand a little more, and moved closer to her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/26/2004 7:00:18 PM)
Raina can physically feel her heart in her chest, beating much faster and louder then it should have from the slow-paced walk.
...Although, it seems they'd stopped walking quite a bit ago. She hadn't exactly realized this, and wasn't even fully aware of it now. She is, however, aware that he's gotten closer since they'd started walking. She watched his eyes, her hand trailing its way lightly along his cheekbone. She leaned up, closer to him, but hesitated, pausing and feeling timid, almost. Well, not almost. She was. It surprised her, and scared her a little the way she was feeling towards Issac.

This fear may have reflected in her eyes for a moment, but faded away. She turned her hand and ghosted her fingertips over his cheek, her eyes focused on his as she hesitated, then reached up and brushed her fingers over the few dark strands that seemed to always hang over his brow. The corners of her mouth twitched upwards, her hand resting lightly again on his cheek. She shook her head slightly to clear her own vision of errant strands and curls hanging distractingly in her face, keeping her eyes on his.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/26/2004 7:05:33 PM)
The fear, it unnerved him a little, reflected so deeply in those dark eyes. He breathed out, a little sigh as her fingers touched his cheek, his hair, and his own fingers finally lost their battle and swept golden curls away from her face gently. They were standing so close he could breath in her own breath, smell the fire off her skin. Quite literally.
"I want to kiss you..." He said, as honestly as his way, even as his ears flushed pink. "But I fear it's too soon."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/26/2004 7:30:27 PM)
She gazed at him for a long moment, her eyes fluttering slightly as he brushed her hair away from her face. She'd clear the very short distance left, if his words hadn't grounded her slightly. She moved her hand away from his cheek, and rested it instead on his shoulder, before squeezing his hand which she had almost forgotten she was holding.
"..It's all right." She said softly. "..I wouldn't know of timing. It feels like it would be...right." She smiled a little, watching his eyes carefully. "..To me, at least."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/26/2004 7:43:07 PM)
He wants to. Badly. So badly that he knows he shouldn't. His heart is thumping in his chest so wildly that he knows this is a choice not made in balance, but one without. Something that will tip the scales, and perhaps in a way neither one of them will like.
Instead, he takes up her hand, and kisses it warmly, before smiling wryly. "One step at a time, for both of us, is a wiser path. I want to savor the first kiss from those lips in a time less fraught with uncertainity." He paused, thinking of the truth of his words, "...I want us to be more, Raina. I don't want stolen kisses - I want warmer, longer ones. Permanant kisses."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/26/2004 7:59:06 PM)
She breathes deeply, her eyes closing a moment before nodding. Granted, he was stirring her heart more than she'd thought it ever could -or would- be. But she knew he was being far more logical in this, and when she opened her eyes and looked up at him again, she smiled.
"..Wait then. Until you aren't so worried about the Tarot. Until this war is over..." ...But would the circus move on then? Granted they were in En Passant now, until the matter was complete, but if they left..... would she go with them?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/26/2004 8:03:26 PM)
"Not until then ... but, a few more walks. A few more talks." Issac tilted his head, and smiled a little. "A few more times to watch you throw fire?"
Speaking of the time ... he glanced towards the sky and sighed. He took her hand in his again, kissing it gently. "I have to go. The list of things I need to get done seem to be getting longer by the conversations I have."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/26/2004 8:16:14 PM)
Her smile returned again, and she nodded. She usually had this thing about people watching her while she practiced, and she'd get self-conscious of what she was doing, and end up making mistakes. However, she felt that if it was Issac doing the watching, she wouldn't be nearly as unnerved. "..I'd like that. All of it."
Then her smile faded again, and she nodded, reaching up and touching his cheek lightly again before her hand dropped to her side. "Don't let me keep you then. Go, save the world." She said the last with a slight smile, her eyes touched with the humor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/26/2004 8:18:45 PM)
Issac's smile widened again, before he leaned forward to kiss her cheek gently, with a softly murmured. "Yes dear..."
A waggle of those dark eyebrows, he turned and sauntered off towards Lyuba's wagons, a soft whistle rising from his lips, cheerily even.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/26/2004 8:25:43 PM)
Raina laughed as her cheeks burned a light pink, and she watched him walk away for a moment, a smile upon her lips, before she turned back towards the Circus wagons, all former irritation at Harper being unfindable, and any other botherances lifted from her mind.
